Animals in Pants

I was watching the football game last night and this commercial came on, it showed a women holding a mokey in pants, and another guy says " wow, if we didn't have technology we would be......" then the monkey says " Animals in pants?" That commercial made me think more than any commercial i've seen. The reason is, because it's true. I think if we didn't have technology then we wouldn't be able to function. Atleast not in the way we do now. I imagine that we would have found some way to adapt but things definitely wouldn't be the same, and to be honest thats really scary. Because there has always been that possibility that someone could attack us with a weapon that takes out our power and electronics, and if that ever happens i think there would be complete panic and we would fall apart.

What do you think about this, and if we didn't have technology how do you think our lives would be different, if at all?

Hey Alex,

I saw the same commercial… quite thought provoking and funny :)

I like to go camping, and when I do, I leave behind a lot of the technology that I use every day. After several days ‘out in the woods,’ I DO seem to become an “animal in pants,” or at least I start to smell like one… -ha.

Anyway, I don’t necessarily think that it is technology, or the lack thereof, that distiguishes humans from the animals (some people might word that as: “…humans from the other animals.”). Technology (as I understand it) is about using tools to make everyday life a little easier… and there are animals (such as crows) who create tools out of sticks and other found objects.

Instead, I think there are some inherently human characteristics that set us appart… more developed memories, for example. I also believe that humans “hope” in ways that animals do not, and humans have “fears” in ways that animals do not. Sure, animals have fears, but I think humans have memory, hopes, fears, etc. on another level…

…I may not be able to prove all this to you, of course. But it is worth considering why humans have developed certain things such as art and philosophy… and as far as we know, animals have not.

Personally, I feel that art and philosophy are more inherently human than technology.
