My view on something that is always right is a respectable education. Mr. B had mentioned something about the types of colleges in other countries that teach their students thing like being racist. That is why I included the respectable part of the education. When you have an education that allows you to go places in your life, and you can only benefit from it. There is no downside to having an education, keeping in mind that that education is a respectable one.
Catherine, I like you're idea that respectable education is always right, but you didn't specify what exactly is respectable. So many people have different opinions on what is "politically correct" or not and I bet so many people have different opinions on what is "respectable".
During the last class, I had an argument that I wasn't able to mention, but many many people brought up the topic after I had thought about it.
My argument is the fact that rape is always absolutely WRONG. Crystal had brought up the topic while we were discussing murder and it really is a good argument.
Rape is always wrong because it does things to people that other wrongs don't do like tearing the victims of their innocence and mentally scarring them.
Somebody had given me a situation where they thought that rape was a necessary thing, "What if the only people on the earth are you and a women (or vice versa)". I told them that in that situation, One person could put in an effort to convince the other one to help keep their race alive instead of just straight up raping them. And I also said that a situation like that is very unlikely to happen and that rape should be discussed more "realistic".
If a person hasn't had sex in a long time, no matter how long, forcing somebody to do what pleases them against the other persons' will is absolutely wrong.
Basically the worst part about rape is that it makes the victim feel like their only purpose is to be a toy for other people.
What do you think?
Reading another blog I found out another person used that topic, but it's not the gift card. My argument still stands
TO ALL: This contest allows different people to argue for/against the same suggested action, and hopefully the more compelling argument will win the contest.
Alex, thanks for offering an argument against rape even though rape had already been mentioned in the other thread.
You wrote, "Rape is always wrong because it does things to people that other wrongs don't do like tearing the victims of their innocence and mentally scarring them."
I whole-heartedly agree... but a philosopher may respectfully ask why rape—among all crimes—is especially hurtful… more so then other personal/physical trespasses such kissing someone who rejects your advances, or giving someone a wet-willy in their ear?
(As I wrote in the other thread, I'm NOT trying to make light of the severity of rape... only trying to provoke further thought as to why we consider rape to be such an abhorrent wrong.)
child abuse and shaking a baby is absolutely wrong. there is no reason to abuse a child, whether it is emotional, psychological or physical abuse. the child cannot defend itself most of the time. it cannot say stop you're hurting me. if you're doing it against your partner then attack your partner, not the child. the child didn't do anything. children are innocent unless are told they are guilty and shown how to be guilty.
Enducation is something physical, that we end up forgetting in time. But the education we are born with lasts forever. (My point: Why does collage have to cost so much? jeezuz) Anyway...
To add on to what Stacey was saying, Ya, abusing such a small and helpless creature is wrong. But your own child...? It's sick and wrong. I don't see how someone can SHAKE and MURDER THEIR OWN HEIR. Look, if you had a child, it took some hard work to make such a beutiful thing. Why ruin it? Why waste it? Why kill such a gift? So what if your baby starts crying. Feed it, play with it. DON'T SHAKE IT!!!!!!!! You wouldn't want your kid to shake YOU, now would you? No, you wouldn't.
This is the first blog i've ever been on. Just to put it out there.
I think stealing is wrong...if its for something that you don't need to survive. But if your sick, starving, and steal a small loaf of bread, than...you should have it, but still get little punishment for it.
The idea of children being innocent came up yesterday during our meeting, and again here on the blog… what exactly do we mean… in what way(s) is a child innocent that the rest of us elder people are not?
Dragon, what do you mean by the education we are born with? What knowledge are we born with? How do you know we are born with it? (I don’t remember being born).
If I need to steal to survive, who am I allowed to steal from? Anyone? Do I really have the right/ability to judge who may or may not ‘need’ something, and therefore decide that stealing from them is allowable? An urban myth is told in which a guy steals a car from someone, explaining that his son just got into a horrible accident and is in critical condition at the hospital… the father races to the hospital only to arrive and be told that the doctor heading to work to perform emergency surgery on his dying son was carjacked… and his son dies.
I just came here today, so i have no idea when this conversation started. Well, i guess this conversation started yesterday. Im a little late on things.
I mean by '...education we are born with...' Is something we are good at doing, such as drawing, writing, maybe even helping people. Just something 'We are born with.' You know, a talent we are really good at doing. a talent we can put to good use on a job force.
With the stealing argument...
I guess if you are starving, and have to steal, than steal from someone who abuses their power, like someone who is often selfish, and does not give to the poor and who brags all too often. (point here- Hey, he has some to share, why can't i have some of his extra? Why can't he share with me? HELP YOUR FELLOW MAN IN TIMES OF NEED.)
Father-Son story...
That has to be thee MOST depressing thing i have heard-read- in a while. He really needed the car. It's his son, something he loved; someone he cherished. But i guess you have a point; its not right to steal. but as long as it is in good meaning -i.e seeing your son in a last moment of life- and you give the stolen item back, than it should be forgiven.
the children need to b taught what is wrong n wht is right.. us "elderly" people are some innnocent n some r not.. children need to b TAUGHT to b guilty.. children come into this world with no knoweledge of right and wrong.. they hav to b taught right and wrong..
Stacey has a good point...you have to learn a a earlier age, it clicks on faster. Be tought right and wrong earlier to make a better community.
