Fairness

Today we discussed Fair inequality (p259-60) from The Pig that Wants to be Eaten. Author Julian Baggini goes on to comment:

We could easily make everyone equal simply by making everyone as poor as the poorest person in society. But that seems obviously to be a foolish thing to do because it doesn't help anyone... However, just because we accept that it may not always be worthwhile to impose equality, that doesn't mean we should simply accept all inequality without question. What we need to ask is when inequality is acceptable...

Seeing equality and inequality solely in material terms could... ...be a terrible mistake, both in politics and in families.

I found this post really interesting, I personally think that not everyone can or should be equal in any aspect. The reason behind my logic is that everyone needs to be different some way other wise life would be truly boring. Also it's unrealistic for anyone to think that we could make everyone equal because you look at the people that have worked hard all their life to earn what they need would not just stand by and let people of a lower class just be given what they had to work for, I'm not saying that I don't support the idea of equality for everyone because it would make the world a better place all together. That's all I got for now, until next time :)
