I'd just like to give a quick answer to certain someones who seem not to like one of the several focal points of the work, namely the spoon.

The spoon is a part of the piece that, if removed, would not only destroy the intended message of the piece, and possibly completely the significance of all art ever created would be in jeopardy of being minimalized to mass produced and colorless tripe.

You will notice the spoon, unlike the rest of the piece, is free from contaminants. Free from blood and though clearly it was the instrument through which the fatal blow was delivered. You can see clearly, in contrast with the darkness, the general sense of decay of the banana and the other instruments, the spoon is white and clean, representing purity.

When properly analyzed, you will see true filth and evil being corrupted by purity. It is supposed to be a malevolent force, this purity, for though it represents, both spiritually and mentally, truth and beauty, it is a meddling, miserly force.. Something that in its beauty knows nothing but how to destroy.

An interesting irony that this causes is that by killing the banana, the spoon is actually going to cause the banana to further decay, possibly overtaking the spoon and the surrounding neutral ground. The spoon, as a virus of purity, has in fact defeated its purpose and has encouraged imbalance and even more ugliness and pain.

Purity corrupts filth, and is a more damaging force. Its a complex idea, I wouldn't blame anyone from being baffled by it... Higher level art can do that sometimes, it can't be helped :P

And yes, we need serious help.

I can't figure out if that banana is more gruesome in person or in the drab light of that photo...

"...true filth and evil being corrupted..."

Hmmm...

the spelling mistake in the artist's statement is interesting...when spoken it seems to morph from "wores" to "wars" and when written it seems to morph from "wores" to "whores", both create interesting concepts: "True pain cannot be expressed in wars, but in bananas!" or "True pain cannot be expressed in whores, only in Bananas!".

thank you mister b for the new and interesting thoughts about whores, wars and bananas!....

Whoops... should I 'edit' that typo out, or leave it?

leave it, it's more interesting that way.
