Towards Definitions of Art and Beauty

What is art? What is beauty? Here are some of the definitions-in-process (for the latter) offered during today's meeting:

beauty- that which evokes happiness, or a positive emotion

beauty- that which evokes a strong emotion, personal connection

beauty- that which inspires (from Tom Morris' Philosophy for
Dummies)

beauty- __________ (please add your own definition to this thread!)

The group unanimously agreed that stars in the sky are beautiful, and and the vote on natural things in general being beautiful was nearly unanimous.

So... where do we go from here? What specific questions would you like to explore in regards to art, aesthetics, and beauty?

Beauty is mere vanity to a human. most people need to find a new definition other than a substandard definition. A person needs to look beyond what they THINK is beauty and then and only then will they find what beauty really means to them.

A new definition IS needed... any ideas on how we can help members break out of their limited/skewed perspectives on beauty, and help them look beyond...?
