We’re bidding farewell to some of the most committed, memorable, and thoughtful members in our club’s history: Ian B, John C, Anthony N, Anastasia L, and Annie L. Last Thursday, each of our senior members took 10 minutes or so to share:
- Ian reviewed ellipses. (So, wow did you end up doing on your test/presentation?)
- John shared a song titled Life from Jeffrey Lewis. John commented on the lyrics, "I know God is a story someone made up long ago/But it’s hard not to be superstitious despite all you know," and then led willing members in a brief but spirited dance—a first in the club’s history! (I was too prideful to dance… I wish I was more ‘free’!)
- Anthony offered us some encouragement to keep thinking for ourselves, especially about the really important things. He said, "So many people are going through actions instead of caring about what they are doing." (I found myself challenged/inspired by the equivalence implied within Anthony’s words of wisdom: thinking for yourself = caring about what you are doing.)
- Stacie cautioned us that we are often manipulated into being who we are and doing what we do. She argued that manipulation is abuse. (As a teacher, this made me feel a bit guilty… but that was a good starting place for some much-needed reflection on my craft.)
- Annie played the first fifteen minutes of American Beauty for us. (I want to see the rest!)

I learned something from Ian that day.. Give people complelete freedom and they will probably wont do what you expected them to do. I dont know about anyone else bu ti was expecting a large yet subtle ramble about one of those outrageous things Ian talks about. But instead..he worked on his math problem. I dont think i was ever so confused yet learning so much at the same time..
and yesterday someone bumped into me and said they were sorry.. i had to stop and just stand in the middle of the hall thinking how they probably really didnt mean it.. what anthony said deffintly made me think and now If i bump into people.. I dont say sorry. Because I'm not.
Im going to miss every single one of the seniors
