Human rights, your rights, come from... mob rule?

An interesting article about mob rule.

If human rights don't come from the mob (the voting or activist majority), then where do they come from? Our recent discussions suggest that there are no absolutes (other than an absolute statement such as that -ha)... so does that mean that humans have no absolute rights... that 'rights' are figments of our willful imagination? Doesn't that plunge us into "a cold inhuman world" where "nothingness, incoherence, and absurdity" will triumph... a nihilist's world?
